Aplastic Anemia

What is Aplastic Anemia?

Aplastic Anemia is a rare but serious blood disorder in which the bone marrow fails to produce enough new blood cells—red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. This condition leads to symptoms like fatigue, increased susceptibility to infections, and excessive bleeding or bruising. It can occur suddenly or develop gradually, and may range from mild to very severe.

The causes can be diverse, including:

  • Autoimmune disorders that attack bone marrow
  • Exposure to toxins (e.g., pesticides, radiation, certain medications)
  • Viral infections such as hepatitis or Epstein-Barr virus
  • Genetic disorders (in rare cases)

Diagnosis involves blood tests, bone marrow biopsy, and in some cases, genetic testing. Based on severity—non-severe, severe, or very severe—treatment is personalized. For severe cases, Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation (HSCT) from a matched donor is considered the only curative option. Others may undergo immunosuppressive therapy, blood transfusions, or bone marrow stimulants to manage the condition and improve quality of life.

Why Choose India for Aplastic Anemia Treatment?

India, especially Delhi and the NCR region, offers globally recognized hematology care at a significantly lower cost than in Western countries. Patients benefit from:

  • Top-tier hematologists with extensive experience in aplastic anemia management
  • Access to advanced treatments such as HSCT, immunosuppressive therapies, and supportive care
  • Comprehensive diagnostics and international-standard blood banks
  • Infection control protocols critical for immunocompromised patients
  • Dedicated international care teams for logistical and language support

While challenges such as cost and donor availability remain, India’s high success rates and patient-centric care make it a preferred destination for aplastic anemia treatment.
